Patient presented with pain and swelling on tooth #30. I found a vertical defect on the distal buccal, confirming our diagnosis of vertical root fracture. Patient had other implants and wished to restore the hopeless tooth with an implant restoration. Working closely with our head of oral surgery at Pacific Dugoni, I extracted #30 and planned for implant placement. After 6 weeks of healing, we placed a Zimmer 4.1mm diameter implant. At the time of the implant surgery, the bone was healthy and remodeling from the recent extraction. The implant surgery was guided by a surgical guide I fabricated to increase the likelihood of the most favorable restorative outcome. After 3 months of healing the implant was uncovered and a healing abutment was placed. 2 weeks later, I took the final impression for a screw retained PFM crown that will match #29. The impression is currently at the laboratory and I will be placing the final restoration as soon as possible.
